Project Summary

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region partnered with Next Step to build 10 solar-powered CrossMod homes. The project’s goal is to address the need for housing for local workers and enhancing quality of life for Hillsboro residents. Next Step supported homebuyer education, connected Habitat La Crosse with Clayton's Builder Block program, and delivered our GroundWork Developer training to Habitat affiliates in Wisconsin.

Ten new CrossMod homes will welcome families across a range of incomes, creating a vibrant, mixed-income community.

  • Three homes are reserved for Habitat for Humanity partner families, who will purchase through a 0% interest mortgage.
  • Three homes will go to first-time homebuyer families earning less than 80% of the county median income.
  • The remaining four homes will be available to any buyer with a household income at or below 120% of the county median.

Every home in the development includes a solar array with battery backup, so families move in powered by clean energy — and positioned to save on utility bills for years to come.
