LOUISVILLE, KY – March 5, 2019 – Next Step is pleased to announce that Stacey Epperson, president and founder of the nonprofit social enterprise, has been appointed to the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development’s Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC).
“I am thrilled to join the Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee and look forward to collaborating with my fellow committee members,” said Ms. Epperson. “These regulations have an impact on the everyday lives of hardworking individuals and families, and this committee can make a tremendous impact by helping to increase the quality, safety and energy-efficiency of manufactured homes.”
The MHCC is a statutory Federal Advisory Committee body charged with providing recommendations to the Secretary on revisions and interpretations of HUD’s manufactured home construction and safety standards and related procedural and enforcement regulations. The 21-member committee consists of representatives from housing manufacturers, manufactured housing retailers, mission-driven organizations and homeowners.
As the founder of Next Step Network, Ms. Epperson is an advocate for manufactured homeowners and home buyers, working to ensure that they have access to fair and equitable financing options for high performing, energy-efficient homes. In 2012, she was elected an Ashoka Fellow for her innovative approach to creating the only independent distribution channel for affordable manufactured housing. Ms. Epperson was also recognized as one of Prosperity Now’s Innovators-in-Residence, and has completed the Achieving Excellence in Community Development Program at Harvard’s JFK School of Government.
